the trade for kindness
I frequently play a game on Roblox called Dragon Adventures `(*>﹏<*)′
The game features many animated models of adorable, scary and cool dragons. The wide selection of scaled (or furry) friends to choose from had always enticed me, and with every passing month, more dragons are added to the game!
You can see why I got hooked, right?
Anyways, I had recently gotten into the breeding market. Dragon Adventure's breeding market comprises of two parts: breeding themes and breeding functions. I dabble in both!
In order to be an official theme breeder, you need at least 2 dragons with the same colour theme. A list of popular colour themes is available on the Dragon Adventures wiki page.

When you breed the two dragons, you'll get a baby with the same colours, which you can sell for money.
Now, functional breeding is a different thing entirely. Most customers of functional breeders don't care about colour themes, only about the traits of the dragon.
Wait, what are traits? Well, not too long ago, the Dragon Adventures developers added traits to the game. Every dragon that was hatched after this update had 0-2 traits. Through selective breeding, some "super trait" dragons were made.

There are many different traits, but a dragon can only have a maximum of 4 positive traits. As such, the players specialized their dragons to fit one of two categories: attack and speed dragons.
In Dragon Adventure lingo, the attack dragons are called PVP dragons. This is sort of ironic since PVP stands for player versus player, but the game has long since removed PVP from the game. These so called PVP dragons are mainly used for mob farming or boss fighting. The speed dragons are called racer dragons, which makes more sense as there are races that one can compete in (against other players, might I add... shouldn't these dragons be considered more PVP than the attack dragons?).
Anyways, I had recently obtained 2 10x4 (10 being the highest level of a trait) racer dragons. When I bred them today, I obtained a 10x4 venid! I thought to myself:
Cool, I can make lots of money with this!
This was because 10x4 racers (especially venids) were highly sought after by players. Most of them were willing to fork up a large sum for them. And I was willing to sell it to them!
Afterwards, I looked through the Dragon Adventures subreddit to see if anyone wanted to purchase a racer venid, and lady luck struck upon me! Right there, a player posted that she wanted to buy a racer venid for her friend.
I typed into the comments: I can sell one to you for 100k!
Immediately after, she replied: Sure, let's trade!
I was so excited, because this was my first big sale as a functional breeder. I've been waiting for this moment for a long time!
After the successful trade, her friend asked me to wait and sent me another trade request. Confused but curious, I accepted.
To my pleasant surprise, he added a virus trait potion (worth around 700k) and gave it to me for free! What? I was trembling with shock.
In the chat, he said:
Thank you so much. I've been searching for a venid for a long time.
Spinning around happily in the game, I replied: Thank you so much!
Later on, his friend replied to me on Reddit, saying that he'd genuinely been looking for one since he started playing the game a few months ago.
Elated, a giddy grin spread out across my face as I typed out my response:
no problem! and tysm for the tip it means a lot to me :D
Now, as I kick back and relax, enjoying the cloudy day ahead, I can't help but muse:
Was this the first time I ever received kindness in a trade?
I was notorious amongst my family members for scamming most of the people I traded with. That was because I usually didn't do a trade unless I knew I could profit from it. And here, I definitely profited from this trade. Geez, even the 100k for the venid was a profit (since I spent a measly 750 coins on breeding the 2 super trait dragons to get it).
But I hadn't expected a profit this huge. Plus a good dose of sentimentality on the side? It's too good to be true!
I honestly can't imagine how I managed to score such a deal, but somehow I've started seeing trading in a new light. Maybe not everything is about cost and profit.
Maybe (`◕‿◕`)
