I really adore my Chinese teacher (≧∇≦)ノ
This is because she is easygoing, funny and always willing to go the extra mile for her students. She is helpful without coming on too strong, she is assertive without seeming intimidating and she is funny without sounding awkward. Honestly, she is the embodiment of an amazing person.
Today, I stayed back at school to practice my oral with her. After casually pointing out that I was the only one who booked a consultation slot with her, she immediately moved onto briefing me on each oral topic. She didn't seem disappointed that I was the only one, and that made me feel less awkward as I had actually wanted a one-on-one practice with her.
Just being around her made me smile. After going through each oral topic, she pointed out the ones that we would go through in class.
She said to me, “这些我们在课上才讲,所以我们现在做别的题目。你在课上才专心听我讲就可以了。” (We're not going to practice these topics since we'll be going through them in class. Just listen attentively to what I'll say in class, and you'll be fine.)
Her eyes with wide and fixed on my face. That's another thing she does, maintain eye contact with whoever she's talking to. Sometimes, it's unnerving because I'm not used to it, but it feels good to be seen.
The first topic we practiced was on parents caning their children. To me, this topic was relatively easy as my brother and I both have been physically disciplined before. As such, I had many examples to draw on to support my points.
The second topic was on the local culture. Culture and tradition is one of my weakest topics as I do not have many experiences regarding cultural practices, except for the standard few. Plus, I was never interested in culture and heritage, which was part of why I did not enjoy history lessons.
After those 2 practices, it was the end of the consultation! I bade farewall to my Chinese teacher. Before I could leave just yet, she said to me, “你还可以下次约定见我。” (You can also book a consultation with me next time.)
I am considering meeting her after school on Friday (¬‿¬)
